Entry 1: Unlocking the Power Within: Discovering the Joy of Working Out and Inspiring Others to Get Moving!
Where it all started..
What's going on everyone! My name is Tre'Vion. I am 19 years old, and attending my first year of college. I'm here today to give you all a little introduction about myself, and one of my hobbies that I hold the closest to me. 2 years ago during the beginning of my senior year of high school, I had a huge wake up call. One morning while getting ready for school, I looked in the mirror and noticed I looked a little skinny. I stepped on the scale to weigh myself, and saw that I was 128 pounds. I was not pleased about that, and this was when I realized I had to take action if I wanted to see a change.
What I did..
I began my journey by beginning to eat correctly. When you are trying to gain muscle, your diet is soo important. You need to make sure you are eating enough food, and make sure you are eating the right food. If you just sit around all day shoveling burgers and fries down thinking you are going to gain muscle, well you are simply wrong. Your body will take those foods and store them as fats, which over time will end up slowing your body down. This is referred to as dirty bulking. You need to be eating healthy carbs such as bread and potatoes, as well as a lot of proteins. Make sure you include your greens as well! Everyone's goals are different, so the amount of foods you're eating are solely up to your goals. I also started drinking a consistent amount of water daily, to ensure I was fully hydrated. Being hydrated improves your body's overall performance, and reduces your chance of injuries.
Next, I went online and looked up the best workout splits for beginners. After I created a schedule that would work for me, I began watching videos on workouts I could start to learn. Having a workout split is important for a few reasons: you get the rest you need in between workouts, you know what workouts you're hitting that day, and most importantly, it keeps you organized. The more organized you are, the more likely you are to stay consistent.
Lastly, I changed my mindset and never gave up on myself. I was always trying to be better than I was the day before. I used to hate social interaction, but wanting to better myself changed that. In order to be successful, you have to be willing to come out of your comfort zone. When I would go to the gym, I would ask people a ton of questions. Sometimes I would ask people if my form was good, or if they had any alternative workouts that they would recommend. I would ask how their diets looked, their workout splits, etc. I just wanted to seek improvements in any way. Do not be afraid to ask for help. Of course you come around a negative Nancy every once and a while, but the majority of the gym community is very nice, and will be happy to help you.
Closing
Today, I am currently weighing in at 180 pounds, up 52 pounds from where I started 2 years ago. I am still staying consistent with my workouts and my diet, and I have inspired many people to embark on their own journey. To recap, I want everyone who reads this to know that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Do not be scared to face your fears or your insecurities. Take control of your actions, and strive to live a long, healthy life. That's all I got for you all. I hope this inspires others to discover the joy of working out, and get moving!
